Islamabad (Turkiye Khabar) Pakistani freelancers have further increased their importance in the country’s digital economy by raising their share in total IT exports to 25 percent during the first eleven months of the financial year 2025-26.
According to the data released by the State Bank of Pakistan, the export earnings of freelancers have crossed one billion dollars for the first time, which is being considered a significant milestone in the country’s history.
According to the figures, from July to May, freelancers associated with the IT and related sectors earned more than 1.06 billion dollars in foreign exchange, which is approximately 49 percent higher compared to the same period of the previous financial year.
Pakistan’s overall IT exports have also reached 4 billion dollars during the current financial year, while the share of freelancers was 20 percent last year, which has now increased to 25 percent.
According to experts, the growing trend of freelancing among youth, increasing global demand for Pakistani digital services, and government support have played an important role in this growth.
Improvements in the banking system, easier financial procedures, and better management of income received from abroad have also encouraged freelancers to adopt formal financial channels.
