Alex Eala’s Brilliant Performance, Reaches Berlin Open Semi-Final
Ankara (Sports Desk) Alex Eala has continued her outstanding form at the 2026 Berlin Open, securing a place in the women’s tennis semi-finals.
The 21-year-old Filipino wild card player caused a major upset in the quarter-finals by defeating world number 8 Elena Svitolina 6-3, 6-4.
This remarkable victory came just a day after she eliminated world number 2 Elena Rybakina from the tournament.
At the start of the match, Eala played aggressively and built a strong 4-1 lead in the first set. In the second set, Svitolina attempted a comeback, bringing the score to 5-4, but Eala maintained her composure and closed out the match.
The match lasted approximately 1 hour and 23 minutes, marking Eala’s sixth career victory over a top-10 player.
In the semi-finals, she will face Linda Noskova, while Jessica Pegula and Aryna Sabalenka have also secured their places in the other semi-final.
