Turkmenistan President’s Upcoming Visit to Azerbaijan Expected to Mark a New Phase in Bilateral Relations

Baku (Turkiye Khabar) Turkmenistan President Serdar Berdimuhamedow is expected to soon pay an official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan. During the visit, he will hold bilateral talks with President Ilham Aliyev.

The visit program also includes trips to cities that were affected during the previous conflict, including Fuzuli and Shusha. Several agreements are expected to be signed during the occasion, while a joint declaration will also be issued by both presidents.

In view of the upcoming visit, AzerTag has presented a brief overview of relations between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan.

In the current global system, with the emergence of new regional power centers, relations between Azerbaijan and Central Asia—particularly its strategic partner Turkmenistan—have gained special importance. Based on historical, ethnic, cultural, linguistic, and religious commonalities, these two Caspian Sea countries have elevated their relations to a new and higher level following the 2017 “Declaration on Strategic Partnership.”

Today, relations between Baku and Ashgabat not only reflect the strong political will of the leadership but are also being further strengthened through joint energy and transport projects.

According to President Ilham Aliyev: “We are connected by a shared history, culture, roots, language, and religion. The Turkmen and Azerbaijani nations are truly brotherly peoples and have maintained this bond for centuries. Today, these independent states are achieving new milestones of development.”
