Israeli Attacks Continue Despite Ceasefire, Casualties Reported in Lebanon
Lebanon (Monitoring Desk) Despite a new ceasefire with Hezbollah, Israeli attacks have continued in Lebanon, raising concerns of further escalation in regional tensions.
According to media reports, the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah came into effect at 4 pm local time yesterday; however, several strikes were still reported afterward.
Reports suggest that at least 12 airstrikes and shelling incidents occurred even after the ceasefire, in which two motorcyclists were killed in southern Lebanon.
A Gulf diplomat, speaking on condition of anonymity, told AFP that the ceasefire agreement was reached after mediation by Qatar, the United States, and Iran.
According to the diplomat, the purpose of the agreement was to reduce rising tensions in Lebanon and transform the interim US–Iran understanding into lasting regional peace.
Lebanon’s Ministry of Health said that at least 47 people were killed and 97 injured in the recent attacks, which continued from the night until Friday.
