SWITZERLAND (Monitoring Desk) – A new round of talks between the United States and Iran is set to begin today in the Swiss city of Bürgenstock following the signing of a memorandum of understanding in Islamabad.
According to the Swiss Foreign Ministry, representatives of both countries will meet in Bürgenstock to discuss the implementation mechanism of the agreed deal. Delegations from Pakistan and Qatar will also participate as mediators in the negotiation process.
However, it has not yet been clarified who will represent the United States and Iran at the high-level meeting, nor the exact nature of the discussions. The Swiss government has withheld further details about the summit.
In an earlier statement, participation of other countries was mentioned, but the latest briefing has removed those references.
It is worth noting that following an agreement between the presidents of the United States and Iran, Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif signed the Islamabad memorandum as a mediator.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the document bears the signatures of U.S. President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, and is being viewed as an important step toward reducing tensions in the region.
