Australia (Monitoring Desk): Australia’s Federal Police said on Tuesday that the two individuals involved in the deadly attack at Bondi Beach in Sydney earlier this month carried out the assault alone, without any organizational support.
According to police, the attack specifically targeted the Jewish community and took place on the first day of the Jewish festival of Hanukkah, resulting in the deaths of 15 people.
Investigations revealed that the suspects were a father and son. The 50-year-old suspect was killed during a police operation, while his 24-year-old son was arrested in an injured condition and later transferred to prison.
Authorities stated that the younger suspect has been charged with a total of 59 offenses, including 15 counts of murder.
Federal Police Commissioner Krissy Barrett said during a press conference that investigators found no evidence indicating that the suspects were linked to a larger terrorist network or received any external assistance.
Police added that both individuals had been planning the attack for several months and were suspected of being influenced by extremist ideologies; however, the investigation has not yet been fully concluded.
