Switzerland Talks Conditional on Implementation of Memorandum, Iran’s Stance
Switzerland (Monitoring Desk) After the postponement of the Iranian and US talks that had started in Switzerland, Tehran has clarified that this dialogue was conditional on the implementation of the terms contained in the memorandum of understanding reached between the presidents of both countries on Wednesday night.
According to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghaei, progress toward a final agreement depends on the implementation of specific clauses of the memorandum first and their continuation.
He said that the memorandum of understanding was signed both electronically and formally, due to which the scheduled meeting in Switzerland has currently become unnecessary.
Ismail Baghaei stated that consultations regarding future negotiations for preparing a final agreement are ongoing through mediators, while the announcement of the start of talks will be made when conditions become favorable.
According to him, the implementation of multiple clauses of the memorandum is a basic condition for the start of negotiations, including various political, economic, and security-related points.
He also said that the issue of granting the International Atomic Energy Agency access to certain affected nuclear facilities is also conditional upon future negotiations.
Meanwhile, according to details of the clauses, the agreement includes matters such as ceasefire, the situation of maritime routes, trade facilitation, and access to frozen assets.
On the other hand, this statement has come at a time when an increase in regional tensions has been observed, and the situation in Lebanon has become more serious due to recent airstrikes, where reports of multiple deaths and injuries have also been received.
