Lahore (Showbiz Desk): Today marks the 47th death anniversary of the celebrated poet, humorist, and writer Ibn-e-Insha, who was honored with the Presidential Award for Pride of Performance for his timeless contributions to Urdu literature.
Born Sher Muhammad Khan on June 15, 1927, in a village near Jalandhar, Ibn-e-Insha earned his BA from Punjab University in 1946 and MA from Karachi University in 1953. His literary legacy spans multiple genres, including poetry, humor writing, travelogues, and translations. Notable works include Chand Nagar, Urdu Ki Aakhri Kitab, Chalte Ho To Cheen Ko Chaliye, and Duniya Gol Hai.
Ibn-e-Insha’s travelogues portrayed places and people with a unique blend of wit, satire, and observation, while his poetry combined romance, modern sensibility, and humor in a signature style that continues to inspire readers.
The literary icon passed away on January 11, 1978, and rests at Paposh Nagar Cemetery in Karachi. Yet, his thoughts and writings remain alive in the hearts of Urdu literature enthusiasts.
