Defeat in Playoff Leads to Resignations of Italy’s Coach and Officials

Ankara (Sports Desk): Italy’s national football team suffered a defeat against Bosnia and Herzegovina in the playoff final played in Zenica, losing on penalties, which has triggered a major administrative crisis within the team.

Immediately after the loss, Italian Football Federation President Gabriele Gravina and delegation head Gianluigi Buffon resigned from their positions.

Following this, 48-year-old head coach Gennaro Gattuso also stepped down, taking full responsibility for the team’s failure.

Italy had finished second in their qualifying group, six points behind Norway, which forced them into the playoff stage. After defeating Northern Ireland in the initial match, they were ultimately beaten by Bosnia in the decisive encounter.

In his statement, Gattuso said the team’s primary goal was to qualify for the World Cup, but they failed to achieve it, and he takes full responsibility for the outcome.
