Jeddah (Monitoring Desk): The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has strongly rejected Israel’s recognition of Somaliland, calling the move illegal and unacceptable.
Speaking at an emergency OIC session in Saudi Arabia, the OIC Secretary-General emphasized full support for Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, describing Israel’s action as a blatant violation of international law.
Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed bin Abdulkarim stated that any attempt to undermine Somalia’s sovereignty will be firmly rejected, and stressed the importance of dialogue and unity among regional countries. He also highlighted the need for a second phase of the ceasefire in Gaza.
The Palestinian Foreign Minister reiterated support for Somalia’s internationally recognized borders, declaring that Israel’s recognition of Somaliland violates international law.
Somalia’s Foreign Minister emphasized that Somalia’s territory will not be used by any foreign power, affirming that Somaliland is an integral part of federal Somalia. He criticized Israel’s actions as a violation of Somalia’s sovereignty.
Representatives from Turkey also condemned Israel’s move, stating that it is unacceptable and reaffirming strong, unwavering support for Somalia’s unity and sovereignty.
