Washington (Monitoring Desk) An incident of gunfire occurred involving US Secret Service personnel assigned to the security of US Vice President J.D. Vance, after which security forces responded immediately and brought the situation under control.
According to US media, the shooting took place shortly after the Vice President’s motorcade had passed through the area. Secret Service personnel arrested one suspected armed individual in an injured condition, while another attacker was killed.
The incident occurred near the Washington Monument, following which the White House was temporarily placed under strict security lockdown.
Officials said the firing began when a suspicious individual attempted to flee upon seeing security personnel and later drew a weapon and opened fire, prompting a return of fire from the officers. During the exchange, a minor passerby was also slightly injured.
US Secret Service Deputy Director Matthew Quinn stated that the Vice President did not appear to be the target of the incident, and the motives will become clear after an investigation.
