First Message of Maduro from US Jail Comes to Light

Washington (Monitoring Desk): The first message of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro from a US detention facility has finally surfaced. Currently held in a Brooklyn jail, Maduro has conveyed that he is completely safe, mentally strong, and free from fear or despair.

This was revealed by his son and National Assembly member Nicolás Maduro Guerra in a video statement. According to him, President Maduro’s lawyers have confirmed that he is facing the situation with high morale and unwavering determination.

Maduro has reportedly assured that both he and his wife, Cilia Flores, are in good health and remain fully committed to continuing their political struggle.

Meanwhile, the process of releasing political prisoners in Venezuela has accelerated. Fresh reports confirm that at least five detainees, including a political activist affiliated with opposition leader María Corina Machado’s party, have been released. These releases come nearly a week after President Maduro’s arrest.

Human rights organization Foro Penal also confirmed on social media platform X that Berjilio Laperdi, Youth Coordinator of the political party Vente Venezuela in Bolívar state, is among those freed. Notably, María Corina Machado also belongs to the same party.

The opposition had formally demanded the release of political prisoners on January 3, increasing pressure on the government. Around the same time, former US President Donald Trump’s remarks claiming American influence over Venezuelan affairs further drew global attention.

A few days earlier, National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez had hinted at further releases of detainees in an effort to restore peace, indicating a gradual shift in the country’s political climate.
