U.S. Urges Iran to Stop Arbitrary Detention of Foreign Nationals

Washington (Monitoring Desk) — U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has warned Iran to cease the arbitrary detention of foreign nationals and to immediately release American citizens. He stated that if Iran fails to take these actions, the United States will take additional measures.

Rubio also urged American citizens not to travel to Iran and advised those currently in the country to leave immediately.

Previously, U.S. President Donald Trump had taken a firm stance regarding Iran’s nuclear weapons program and negotiations. He noted that Iran is not yet providing what the U.S. has demanded in talks and that a final decision on military action to enforce a regime change in Iran has not been made. According to Trump, military action may be possible under some circumstances and not under others, and further negotiations are needed for a future agreement on Iran’s nuclear program.
