US–China Trade Deal and Global Affairs See Key Developments

Beijing (Monitoring Desk) — US President Donald Trump met Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing, where both leaders discussed bilateral relations and trade matters in detail.

During the meeting, Donald Trump said that “excellent trade deals” had been made with China. The statement was made while the US President was being shown the gardens of Zhongnanhai, the central leadership compound in Beijing.

The US President also discussed Iran’s nuclear program, stating that the United States does not want Iran to acquire nuclear weapons. He also expressed the desire to keep the Strait of Hormuz open for global trade.

Trump further claimed that a major trade agreement had been reached under which China agreed to purchase a large number of aircraft as well as American goods, including oil and soybeans.

On the other hand, Chinese President Xi Jinping referred to the risks of escalating tensions among global powers and said that both countries could move beyond confrontation and adopt a path of cooperation.

In a later statement, Donald Trump said he hopes US–China relations will continue to strengthen and that both countries are moving toward improved cooperation in global trade.
