Madrid (Monitoring Desk) — Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has praised footballer Lamine Yamal for waving the Palestinian flag during Barcelona’s La Liga title celebrations.
In a statement posted on the social media platform X, the Prime Minister said that those who describe the display of a flag as “hate speech” are either misinformed or driven by narrow thinking.
He said that Lamine Yamal has expressed solidarity with Palestine, reflecting the sentiments of millions of Spanish citizens.
It is worth noting that the 18-year-old footballer waved the Palestinian flag during Barcelona’s victory parade after winning the La Liga title in FC Barcelona.
The move received mixed reactions from different circles. Israeli officials criticized the act, and the Israeli Defense Minister described it as a political gesture and raised objections.
