Washington (Monitoring Desk) The White House has confirmed that US President Donald Trump has signed a memorandum of understanding with Iran to end the war, after which the agreement has come into force.
According to a US website, both countries’ presidents signed the memorandum electronically. Initially, the signing ceremony was scheduled to be held in Switzerland on Friday, however, according to diplomats from a mediating country and other sources, the parties mutually agreed to complete the process earlier.
According to diplomatic sources, this development aimed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible, as both sides had already agreed on the matter. Some sources also claimed that there was political pressure on the White House to publish the text of the agreement.
A source also claimed that Iran had set a condition that the text of the agreement should not be released before formal signing; however, the Iranian side did not describe this decision as a result of pressure.
A senior US administration official briefed journalists on the details of the agreement, after which the ambiguity that had persisted for several days was removed.
According to the White House, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has also signed the memorandum of understanding. Earlier, the signing process between US President Donald Trump and the Iranian leadership at various levels had already been completed.
