UN Envoy: World Has Given Israel License to Commit Violence Against Palestinians

New York (Monitoring Desk) – Francesca Albanese, United Nations Special Assistant, has warned that the international community has effectively given Israel a license to commit violence against Palestinians.

Albanese stated that life in the occupied Palestinian territories has become a continuous cycle of physical and psychological suffering, with violence effectively institutionalized as state policy. She added that several governments and ministers have allowed Israel to act with impunity, resulting in systematic humiliation, displacement, blockades, denial of aid and food, and both settler and military violence, turning the occupied Palestinian areas into zones of collective punishment.

According to the report, since October 7, 2023, Israeli attacks in Gaza have killed at least 72,263 people and injured 171,944, while over 18,500 Palestinians have been detained in the occupied West Bank, including at least 1,500 children.

Albanese called on UN member states to halt acts of violence and genocide and to hold perpetrators accountable, emphasizing that global silence undermines the meaning of international law. She stressed that tolerating Israel’s actions against the Palestinian people constitutes a severe violation of law and human rights, heightening the gravity and indefensibility of the situation on a global scale.
