Washington (Monitoring Desk) The US Central Command United States Central Command has claimed that its forces carried out “self-defense” operations in response to what it described as an unprovoked Iranian attack.
In a statement, CENTCOM said that US Navy guided-missile destroyers were sailing from the Strait of Hormuz towards the Gulf of Oman when Iranian forces allegedly launched an attack using missiles, drones, and small boats. However, it added that no US naval assets were damaged.
According to the US military, it responded immediately and targeted several Iranian installations, including missile and drone launching units. It also said that command-and-control, intelligence, and surveillance facilities were struck.
CENTCOM stated that the purpose of the operation was to eliminate threats and ensure the protection of its forces. The statement further added that the United States does not seek to escalate tensions in the region but remains fully prepared to defend its forces at all times.
