Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan Agree to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

Ashgabat (Turkiye News): Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov met with Azerbaijan’s High Commissioner and Ambassador Jizmet Gozalov to discuss current relations and future cooperation opportunities between the two countries.

The meeting included detailed discussions on key aspects of Turkmen-Azerbaijani relations in political and diplomatic, trade and economic, as well as cultural and humanitarian fields. Both sides emphasized the importance of organizing high-level visits and meetings between their leaders.

Plans for programs scheduled this year were also discussed, including preparations for the next session of the Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan Intergovernmental Economic Cooperation Commission, which is expected to be held in Ashgabat.

The meeting explored opportunities to further enhance cooperation in cultural and humanitarian fields. It was noted that Azerbaijan’s cultural days might be held in Turkmenistan this year, reflecting the deep cultural ties between the two nations.

Additionally, discussions were held on cooperation in horse riding and horse breeding as part of celebrating 2026 as the “Year of the Horse” in the Eastern calendar, titled in Turkmenistan as “Free, Permanent, Neutral Turkmenistan – Homeland of Purposeful Heavenly Horses.”

The meeting concluded with both Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan reaffirming their commitment to strengthen mutual ties and multifaceted partnership.
