Türkiye: Successful Sea Trials of Locally Developed Advanced Mine-Hunting Sonar Completed

Istanbul (Turkiye Khabar) Turkish defense company Armelsan Defense has successfully completed the sea trials of its newly developed locally produced mine-hunting sonar “Nusrat 1915,” after which preparations have begun to integrate it into the fleet of the Turkish Navy.

According to the company’s General Manager Guray Aybar, this locally developed hull-mounted sonar has moved beyond the development phase and has now entered the platform integration stage.

He stated that under the upcoming plan, the system will be installed on various naval vessels, with particular focus on its installation on Engin-class ships.

According to the Turkish Navy and the Presidency of Defence Industries, the system is expected to become fully operational by the end of next year.

Officials said that in initial tests, the sonar has demonstrated better performance compared to existing foreign systems, and it will be able to detect naval mines from greater distances.

The company added that this advanced technology will not only enable early detection of underwater explosive threats but will also allow skilled personnel to carry out operations in a safer manner.
