Istanbul (Turkey News) Türkiye, while responding to statements by some countries regarding the events of 1915, has said that using this issue for political purposes is unacceptable.
In a statement issued by the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was said that the emerging environment of peace and reconciliation in the South Caucasus provides a clear response to those elements that seek to create hostility by basing arguments on historical matters in the region.
The statement further added that politicians in some countries attempt to use this issue for their limited political interests or to divert attention from their own responsibilities.
Reiterating its position, Ankara said that Türkiye believes in the principles of historical research and transparency and has been a strong example of coexistence for centuries.
Türkiye also reiterated its proposal for the establishment of a joint historical commission to enable an impartial and fair examination of the events of 1915.
The statement urged the international community to play a constructive role in promoting dialogue and a positive atmosphere in the region.
