111th Anniversary of Gallipoli: International Tribute to Martyrs in Canakkale

Canakkale, Türkiye (Turkey News) On the occasion of the 111th anniversary of the Gallipoli campaign, Commonwealth countries paid tribute to the martyrs of the First World War at a solemn ceremony held at the Cape Helles Memorial.

The ceremony took place at the Gallipoli peninsula, where diplomats, military officials, and descendants of the fallen soldiers from various countries participated. The purpose of the event was to honor the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in this historic battle.

Participants laid wreaths at the memorial, where the names of more than 20,000 personnel whose graves remain unknown are inscribed. Speakers on the occasion said that although the campaign began as a war, over time it has become a symbol of international friendship and mutual respect.

Turkish officials also attended the ceremony and highlighted that the soldiers who lost their lives in the war now rest in a land of friendship. Ambassadors from several countries, including the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, India, Canada, and others, also laid wreaths.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, tribute was paid to the martyrs, demonstrating global solidarity, while speakers emphasized the importance of remembering the cost of war and human sacrifice.
