Hamilton, Canada / Istanbul (Turkey News) Türkiye’s Communications Director Burhanettin Duran has said that every country now considers cyberspace a part of national security, and therefore Türkiye must take immediate legal steps to protect its sovereignty in this field.
Speaking at a conference titled “Communication in the Century of Türkiye” in Istanbul, he said that competition at political and social levels has increased worldwide, and the digital world is now also being treated as part of state sovereignty.
He added that following recent and upcoming legal reforms, Türkiye is obliged to strengthen its sovereignty in this domain. According to him, the country faces multiple challenges, including the online protection of children and the defense of nationally critical capabilities.
Burhanettin Duran warned that digitalization has made it easier to influence public opinion through algorithms, and that social media is now being used as a tool of hybrid warfare between different countries.
He said this is a multi-dimensional challenge that requires immediate and effective measures.
