Istanbul, Turkiye (Turkey News) Turkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi discussed the latest situation of the ongoing negotiation process with the United States on Sunday.
According to Turkish diplomatic sources, the conversation between the two leaders took place via telephone, during which the overall regional situation and the escalation of tensions were also reviewed.
The report states that tensions in the Middle East increased when the United States and Israel carried out attacks on Iran in February. Later, Iran responded with counteractions, targeting Israel and US allies in the Gulf region, while the situation in the Strait of Hormuz also became tense.
After the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, global energy and trade were also affected.
Later, on April 8, a ceasefire was implemented through the mediation of Pakistan, however the talks held in Islamabad did not reach any final agreement.
The US President later extended this ceasefire indefinitely, however the situation in the region is still being described as fragile and uncertain.
