Turkey and United Kingdom Agree to Further Strengthen Trade Relations

ISTANBUL (Turkiye Khabar) – Türkiye and the United Kingdom have discussed steps to further strengthen bilateral economic relations and to modernize their free trade agreement in line with current global requirements.

Turkish Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat said that he was pleased to host UK Minister of State for Trade Chris Bryant at the Ministry of Trade.

The discussions focused on expanding the economic partnership between Türkiye and the United Kingdom, relations with the European Union, modernization of the free trade agreement, promotion of investment, cooperation in the defense industry, strengthening ties between business communities, and developing joint projects in third countries.

According to the Turkish Minister of Trade, the trade volume between the two countries has reached $24 billion in 2025, reflecting the strength and potential of bilateral relations.

He said that both countries aim to achieve a $40 billion trade target after the completion of negotiations on the updated free trade agreement.

Ömer Bolat added that the completion of the agreement would make trade more competitive and integrated, while Türkiye, due to its production capacity, strategic location, and strong supply network, will continue to serve as a reliable partner and regional hub for British companies.

He further stated that Ankara and London will continue joint efforts to promote trade and investment, support business communities, and expand economic cooperation into new sectors.
