Nicosia (Turkiye News): President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Tufan Erhürman has expressed strong support for the position of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan regarding developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and Cyprus issue.
He stated that any attempt to separate Türkiye and the Turkish Cypriot people from matters related to security, energy, and maritime boundaries would not succeed.
The reaction came after President Erdoğan warned that any targeting of the rights and interests of Türkiye and Turkish Cypriots would be met with a clear and strong response.
In a press conference titled “200 Days as President,” Erhürman said his government is pursuing a diplomatic approach on Cyprus and Eastern Mediterranean issues while protecting the interests of the Turkish Cypriot people.
He added that the administration has participated with Türkiye in various international forums, including the Antalya Diplomacy Forum and meetings of the Organization of Turkic States, to strengthen its diplomatic position.
He emphasized that negotiations on Cyprus should not be for the sake of talks alone but should lead to practical outcomes, and said that the public will be kept informed about discussions with the United Nations and the Greek Cypriot administration.
Meanwhile, the Turkish Ministry of Defence stated that no military alliance targeting Turkish Cypriots or Türkiye’s interests could succeed.
The ministry said the Turkish Armed Forces have the capability to respond strongly to any threat and are closely monitoring activities that increase tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean. It also criticized certain European agreements, saying they could disturb the regional balance of power and violate international law and the 1960 Cyprus agreements.
