Strait of Hormuz Closed, Trump Ready to End War but Threat Remains

Washington (Monitoring Desk): U.S. President Donald Trump has said that despite the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, he is willing to end the ongoing conflict with Iran.

According to media reports, The Wall Street Journal, citing officials from the Trump administration, reported that the president has informed his close aides of his desire to resolve the Iran conflict, even if the Strait of Hormuz remains closed.

Trump and his advisers believe that direct military action to reopen the strait could prolong the conflict and extend it beyond a four-to-six-week timeframe. Officials say the president has military options available but is not in favor of using them immediately.

The report also stated that Trump has devised a strategy under which the United States would target Iran’s navy and missile capabilities to achieve its objectives, followed by increasing diplomatic pressure on Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and de-escalate tensions. If Iran does not cooperate, Washington may pressure its European and Gulf allies to help restore the passage.

It is worth noting that Trump has also warned that if the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened within 48 hours, key civilian infrastructure in Iran could be targeted.
