State Must Provide Equal Rights to All Citizens, Says Maulana Fazlur Rehman

Karachi (Turkiye Khabar): Chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, has said that it is the responsibility of the state to provide equal rights to all citizens, including minorities, and to adopt an effective and reliable policy for maintaining peace in the country.

Addressing a ceremony in Karachi regarding the protection of minorities and religious freedom, he said that people belonging to different religions and ethnicities live in the country, while Islam teaches humanity, tolerance, and peace.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman stated that Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam has always believed in taking all segments of society along together, and for this purpose the party has also established a minority wing. He said that his party has consistently supported the rights, protection, and religious freedom of minorities.

Referring to the past, he said that during the government of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, when educational institutions were being nationalized, his father, who was then the Chief Minister of the Frontier province, had clearly stated that minority educational institutions would not be taken into state control without the consent of the concerned community.

The JUI chief said that his elders always taught the importance of protecting minority rights, adding that real peace can only be achieved when citizens’ lives, property, dignity, and freedom are secure.

He further said that different provinces, including Sindh, are currently facing law and order challenges, while the situations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan are more alarming.

According to him, the state must adopt a coordinated and reliable strategy to ensure peace and protect the public in order to bring stability to the country.
