South Korea (Monitoring Desk): A court in Seoul has sentenced former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol to 30 years in prison in a case related to sending military drones into North Korea.
According to the prosecution, the drone flights were part of an alleged attempt to escalate tensions between the two countries and to create a justification for imposing martial law in 2024, thereby compromising national security.
The court ruled that the actions had serious consequences, while Yoon Suk Yeol has denied all charges against him.
His lawyers argued that the drone operations were not part of any martial law plan but were instead a response to alleged provocations from North Korea.
It is worth noting that the former president had previously also been sentenced to life imprisonment in another case related to an alleged coup attempt involving martial law. However, he retains the right to appeal both decisions.
