Islamabad (Turkey News): A review meeting on the promotion of a cashless economy was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The Prime Minister appreciated the economic team and State Bank of Pakistan for shifting salaries, pensions, and vendor payments to the digital payment system RAAST. From July 2025 to January 2026, federal and provincial governments made payments totaling PKR 1.6 trillion through RAAST. Under the Ramadan Relief Package, 71% of eligible beneficiaries have already received financial assistance, compared to only 24% on the 12th day of Ramadan last year.
The number of individuals benefiting from digital banking has exceeded 127 million. The Prime Minister directed all government departments to provide QR codes on bills to facilitate services for citizens.
The meeting included briefings from the Ministry of Finance, State Bank, BISP, Ministry of Information Technology, and other relevant institutions on steps taken to promote digital payments and the digital payment ecosystem dashboard. The Prime Minister also instructed that the targets of the digital payment system be achieved within the set timeframe.
