Ankara (Turkey News): Republican lawmaker Andy Ogles is facing severe criticism after posting anti-Muslim comments on social media. The remarks drew condemnation from several Democratic lawmakers and at least one fellow Republican.
In his post, Ogles stated, “Muslims do not belong in American society. Diversity is a lie.” He later reiterated that Muslims in the US should move to Muslim-majority countries, noting, “There are 57 Islamic countries in the world (excluding the UK).”
Democratic leaders reacted strongly. Hakeem Jeffries called Ogles a “dangerous fool and sick liar,” adding, “Islamophobic people like you should not be in Congress or civilized society.” Representative Eric Swalwell highlighted that Muslims in his California district include “parents, business owners, and police officers,” describing Ogles’ tweet as “un-American.” Representative Judy Chu labeled the statement “unacceptable,” emphasizing that racial bias and hate have no place in American society.
Responding to the criticism, Ogles argued that if his comments targeted Christians, they would not have drawn media attention. He added, “If my remarks were about Christians, this wouldn’t even be news. Spare me your moral outrage. Stop crying.”
The American Islamic Relations Council (CAIR) also condemned Ogles, labeling him an “anti-Muslim extremist.”
