Philippines hit by powerful 8.2 magnitude earthquake, tsunami warning issued

Philippines (Monitoring Desk) A strong earthquake measuring 8.2 magnitude has been recorded in the Mindanao Islands of the Philippines, causing panic across the region.

The US Tsunami Warning System immediately issued a tsunami alert after the earthquake, while according to the German Research Centre for Geosciences, the depth of the quake was recorded at approximately 10 kilometers.

Initially, the agency reported the earthquake’s magnitude as 7.3, but later it was updated to 8.2.

In view of the impact of the quake, tsunami warnings have also been issued for northeastern coastal areas of Indonesia.

So far, there have been no immediate reports of casualties or property damage, while relevant agencies are assessing the situation and rescue teams have been placed on alert.
