Iran–Israel tensions escalate, exchange of missile strikes and counterclaims

Tel Aviv (Monitoring Desk) The Israeli military has claimed that Iran fired missiles toward Israel, however it said all missiles were intercepted mid-air.

The situation in the region became further tense when sirens sounded in parts of Jordan, while the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed that it targeted Israeli military positions with ballistic missiles.

According to the IRGC, the ceasefire was accepted on the condition that all fronts would remain silent, but it said that the United States and Israel did not fulfill their obligations. Iran warned that if Israel does not stop attacks on Lebanon, the consequences will be more severe.

On the other hand, sources regarding Israel’s response suggest that Israel may carry out retaliatory action against Iran soon.

Iranian Supreme Leader’s adviser Mohsen Rezaei said that violations of the ceasefire and attacks on Lebanon will not be tolerated, and that responses are being given to the attackers.

Senior Iranian sources further stated that if Israel launches another attack, all US bases in the region could also be targeted. Meanwhile, Iran has temporarily closed the airspace over its western regions indefinitely, while Iraq has also temporarily shut its airspace.

Syria has also closed its southern airspace for 12 hours and announced the suspension of flights at Damascus International Airport.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has also been briefed on the escalating situation in the region.
