Pakistan rejects Indian statements on Gilgit-Baltistan, reiterates stance on Kashmir issue

Islamabad (Turkey News) Pakistan has strongly rejected what it called baseless and absurd statements by India regarding the upcoming elections in Gilgit-Baltistan.

According to the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, these claims made by India are contrary to facts and part of misleading propaganda. Pakistan has clearly stated that it completely rejects these statements and does not consider them to hold any importance.

Reiterating its position, Pakistan said that India is illegally occupying the internationally recognized disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The Kashmir issue remains the oldest unresolved dispute on the agenda of the United Nations Security Council, which began with India’s forcible and illegal occupation of the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir in 1947.

Pakistan said that the only path to a just and lasting resolution of this dispute is the implementation of relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, under which the Kashmiri people should be granted the right to self-determination through a free and impartial plebiscite under UN supervision.

The statement further said that India’s baseless claims regarding Gilgit-Baltistan are an attempt to divert attention from alleged serious human rights violations by Indian forces in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, where security forces enjoy immunity under special laws.

Pakistan called on India to vacate all illegally occupied territories, reverse unilateral and illegal measures taken since August 5, 2019, and allow access to independent observers, human rights organizations, and international media to assess the ground situation.

The spokesperson added that India should allow the Kashmiri people to exercise their right to self-determination in accordance with UN resolutions.
