Multiple Incidents of Violence and Vandalism Against Christian Community Reported in India

New Delhi (Monitoring Desk): On the occasion of Christmas, multiple incidents of violence and vandalism targeting the Christian community have been reported across India, raising serious concerns on social media and among human rights groups.

According to Indian media, on December 25, celebrations in various parts of the country were targeted by extremist elements linked to Hindutva ideology. Religious events of the Christian community were disrupted at several locations, and decorations were damaged.

In Assam’s Nalbari district, St. Mary’s School faced vandalism, while in Paingan, individuals associated with Bajrang Dal and Vishva Hindu Parishad were accused of violence and creating disturbances. In Raipur, Chhattisgarh, Christmas decorations at Magneto Mall were damaged, and in Kerala’s Palakkad district, a children’s Christmas carol group was reportedly attacked.

Reports indicate that incidents of violence against religious minorities, particularly Muslims and Christians, have increased in recent years, heightening concerns about the safety, property, and religious freedom of minority communities on social media.

International human rights activists and social media users have condemned these attacks and called for protection of minority rights in India. Critics stress that religious freedom is a fundamental right, yet minority communities in India continue to face fear and insecurity.
