Lahore (Turkiye News) Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has inaugurated the portal of the “Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar Scheme” under which agricultural land will be provided to landless rural residents across the province.
According to the government plan, more than 124,000 acres of agricultural land will be distributed among rural farmers, with a total estimated value of around Rs 160 billion. The distribution process has been designed while specifically considering water availability and soil fertility.
In the first phase, over 13,000 agricultural lots in different districts will benefit approximately 88,000 families, while thousands of additional lots have also been allocated in the Cholistan region, which are expected to benefit more than 100,000 families.
Under the scheme, each successful applicant will be provided agricultural land worth between Rs 2.5 million to Rs 4 million, along with financial assistance ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 250,000 per acre for land development and settlement purposes.
The land will be allotted for a period of 10 years strictly for farming purposes only. Farmers will also be provided guidance from agricultural experts, while relevant officials will monitor the land regularly.
Authorities said the project is expected to become a major and revolutionary step toward reducing rural poverty, promoting employment, and increasing agricultural productivity.
