Iran–US Nuclear Talks Expected Today in Geneva

Geneva (Monitoring Desk): A new round of indirect negotiations between the United States and Iran is underway in Geneva, aiming to resolve the long-standing nuclear dispute and reduce the risk of potential US strikes on Iran. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, accompanied by senior diplomats, has arrived in Geneva for the talks.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed optimism, stating that the discussions could move beyond the current “neither-war-nor-peace” situation. Araghchi also described the negotiations as a historic opportunity.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned that Iran will need to discuss its ballistic missile program. The warning came a day after US President Donald Trump accused Tehran of developing missiles capable of targeting the United States.

According to Reuters, the negotiations were resumed to break the decades-long deadlock over Iran’s nuclear program. The US, other Western countries, and Israel believe Iran is attempting to develop nuclear weapons through the program, while Tehran denies these allegations.

US special envoy Steve Witkoff and President Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner are participating in the talks alongside Iran’s foreign minister under the mediation of Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi.

President Trump emphasized in his State of the Union address that diplomacy is the priority, but Iran will not be allowed to possess nuclear weapons. US Vice President J.D. Vance also stressed that if Iran acquires nuclear weapons, military options would remain the last resort.
