Iran Acknowledges Shortage of Some Medicines

Tehran (Monitoring Desk) The head of Iran’s Food and Drug Administration, Mehdi Pir Salehi, has said that the situation created in the petrochemical and steel sectors due to the war has led to an increase in medicine prices in the country.

In a statement, he said that the government is trying to revise the insurance budget and, inevitably, some medicine prices are being adjusted.

He added that discussions are ongoing with Parliament and the Planning and Budget Organization to ensure increased insurance funding and to reduce the direct financial burden on the public.

According to Mehdi Pir Salehi, the country is facing shortages of some medicines; however, there is no problem in the supply of essential and life-saving drugs. He said that some specific branded medicines, previously imported from Western countries, are now facing supply issues.

He further stated that efforts are underway to overcome these shortages and that there is a need to shift medicine usage towards locally produced products.
