Future Wars Will Be Fought Over Water, Erdoğan Warns

Istanbul (Turkiye News): President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has warned that conflicts which revolved around oil and carbon fuels in the last century could shift toward water in the future, as the global race for power intensifies.

Addressing an افتتاحی ceremony of water projects, he said that factors such as climate change, drought, population growth, urban expansion, and industrial development are putting immense pressure on water resources worldwide.

He noted that more than two billion people across the globe lack access to clean drinking water, while a global report suggests that by 2050, nearly six billion people may not have adequate access to safe water.

President Erdoğan stated that in the current century, water has become a strategic and highly valuable resource essential for production and energy, and control over it is increasingly becoming a key issue among global powers.

He pointed out that only about 2.5% of the world’s total water is fresh water, while the global population continues to grow without a corresponding increase in rainfall, which could lead to a major water crisis in the future.
