Erdoğan and European Commission President Discuss Türkiye–EU Relations in Phone Call

Istanbul (Turkiye Khabar) Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a telephone conversation on Tuesday with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, focusing on rising regional tensions and the future of Türkiye–European Union relations.

According to Türkiye’s Directorate of Communications, the two leaders discussed both regional and global developments as well as areas of mutual cooperation.

During the call, President Erdoğan said that Türkiye is actively working to maintain ceasefires and promote peace in the region. He also stressed that the Strait of Hormuz should be reopened as soon as possible to ensure the continuity of global energy flows.

Erdoğan further accused Israel of prolonging regional tensions and violating international law, describing such actions as “piracy,” and called for increased international pressure on Israel.

He also said that Türkiye should be included in European security frameworks and emphasized the need to upgrade the customs union between Türkiye and the EU. The Turkish president highlighted the importance of expanding cooperation in various sectors to strengthen economic integration and shared interests between both sides.
