Islamabad (Turkey News): The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has taken a key step regarding local government elections following a request from the Ministry of Interior.
The ECP has formed a committee to finalize matters related to local elections and has issued a notification regarding its formation. The committee, tasked with reviewing local election affairs in Islamabad, includes various officials.
According to the ECP, Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa will serve as the committee’s convener, while ECP Special Secretary Policy Zafar Iqbal Hussain has been appointed as a member. Additional members include Additional Director General Local Government Elections Nadeem Qasim and Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon.
The committee will finalize notifications on the delimitation of town corporations and determine the number of union councils in each town. It will also provide official maps and area names according to the delimitation.
Officials stated that the committee will prepare a draft for amendments to the ICT Local Government Conduct of Elections Rules 2015 and finalize amendments in accordance with the ICT Local Government Amendment Ordinance 2026. Regular meetings will be held to expedite the process.
The ECP confirmed that the Ministry of Interior had requested the formation of the committee yesterday, prompting this action.
