Climate Change a Serious Global and National Threat, Pakistan Committed to Environmental Protection

Islamabad (Turkiye News Desk): On the occasion of World Environment Day, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that climate change has become a serious threat to health, economy, and food security, and urgent and effective measures are essential to address it.

In his message, President Asif Ali Zardari said that despite having low carbon emissions, Pakistan is among the countries most affected by climate-related risks. He expressed deep concern over the rapid melting of glaciers, devastating floods, and severe heatwaves.

He emphasized the need for immediate action in areas such as efficient water use, waste reduction, forest conservation, and the promotion of biodiversity. He also stressed that accelerating renewable energy projects is a critical need of the time. The president called upon youth, media, and civil society to play an active role in environmental protection.

Zardari further stated that environmental protection should be made a core part of national policy, adding that Pakistan is committed to global environmental cooperation to ensure a safe and sustainable future for coming generations.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also reiterated Pakistan’s firm commitment to environmental protection, stating that safeguarding the environment is a shared global responsibility.

In his message, he said that the world must take coordinated and collective action to address environmental challenges. He described floods, droughts, and rapidly melting glaciers as severe impacts of climate change.

The Prime Minister noted that Pakistan is among the countries most affected by climate change, resulting in significant human and economic losses. He stressed that tackling these challenges requires joint efforts at individual, governmental, and international levels.

Shehbaz Sharif urged citizens to adopt environmentally friendly lifestyles and contribute to building a greener and more sustainable Pakistan, emphasizing that protecting the environment is a shared duty for a better future for coming generations.
