Belarus President Lukashenko Makes First Official Visit to North Korea

Ankara (Turkiye News): According to Istanbul-based sources, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko arrived in North Korea on Wednesday for his first official visit to the East Asian country.

At Pyongyang International Airport, Lukashenko was welcomed by North Korea’s First Vice Premier Kim Tok-hun and Belarusian Foreign Minister Maksim Reznichenko, as reported by Belarusian state news agency Belta.

Reznichenko told journalists that during the two-day visit, Lukashenko and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un plan to sign a friendship and cooperation agreement. He said, “It is time to actively enhance our relations. There are multiple sectors of mutual interest that will be incorporated into this friendship agreement. This agreement will strengthen ties between relevant ministries and institutions.”

Reznichenko further stated that ten additional bilateral agreements will be signed during the visit to reinforce the legal framework for cooperation, including the core friendship pact. Belarus’s presidency announced on Tuesday that the visit is taking place at the invitation of Kim, who had invited Lukashenko last September during a military parade in Beijing to visit Pyongyang “at any convenient time.”
