Azerbaijan–Georgia Parliamentary Ties Strengthened, Agreement to Enhance Cooperation

Baku (Turkey News) Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Parliament Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova, met with Chairman of the Georgian Parliament Shalva Papuashvili on the sidelines of the Inter-Parliamentary Union meeting in Istanbul.

According to Azerbaijan’s state news agency AZERTAC, during the meeting Shalva Papuashvili presented Sahiba Gafarova with the Georgian Parliament’s honorary medal. She was awarded this honor in recognition of her significant role in promoting inter-parliamentary relations and strengthening friendship between the peoples of the two countries. It was also noted that she is the first female parliamentary leader to receive this distinction.

During the discussion, both sides emphasized that international forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union provide important opportunities for dialogue on global issues and for enhancing cooperation among legislative bodies.

The two leaders highlighted the key role of heads of state in advancing bilateral relations and stressed the importance of high-level visits. In this context, the recent visit of Ilham Aliyev to Georgia was described as particularly significant.

The meeting also expressed satisfaction over the high level of parliamentary cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia, noting that both countries’ legislative bodies are actively collaborating not only bilaterally but also on various international platforms, which is playing a vital role in further strengthening their relations.
