Ankara (Turkey News): The Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure has announced that following attacks on Iran by United States and Israel, varying levels of airspace closures and restrictions have been implemented over Iran, Iraq, Israel, Syria, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Qatar.
The ministry stated on its official social media account that air traffic services are not being provided over Afghanistan, while airspace regulations are in effect over the United Arab Emirates.
Ben Gurion Airport in Israel is operating at limited capacity, while Haifa, Ramon, Rosh Pina, and Herzliya airports remain closed. In Syria, operations at Damascus and Aleppo international airports may vary according to NOTAMs.
Regarding regional air traffic, most flights are being routed via Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkey, and southern Cyprus, while some flights are taking northern Azerbaijan routes to reach Turkey and Europe. Air traffic within Turkish airspace has also increased, but authorities report that services continue safely and without disruption.
On Saturday, 15 flights were diverted due to regional airspace closures, including nine redirected to Istanbul Airport. Two flights of Turkish Airlines and Pegasus Airlines at Tehran Airport were grounded. The ministry added that Turkish carriers are adjusting flight paths according to current restrictions, monitoring the regional situation closely, and preparing for any potential changes.
The regional tensions follow military action by Israel and the United States against Iran on Saturday, citing alleged threats from the Iranian government. These attacks occurred after recent nuclear talks in Geneva between the US and Iran, which both sides described as serious and constructive. Last June, the US struck three Iranian nuclear facilities during a 12-day Israel-Iran confrontation.
