Istanbul (Turkey News) Türkiye and the United Kingdom have signed a Strategic Partnership Framework document aimed at further strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation in various fields.
This development took place during a meeting in London between Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper.
According to the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the framework includes multiple sectors such as security, climate change, human development, science, and technology, through which cooperation between the two countries will be given a new direction.
The joint statement said that the agreement provides a foundation for further strengthening the strategic partnership between the two NATO member states and will help enhance cooperation in addressing global and regional challenges.
It also stated that the current global order is rapidly becoming multipolar, which is increasing risks in the region; therefore, defense and strategic cooperation under NATO has become even more important.
Both countries agreed that strong bilateral relations are essential for global peace and stability in Europe and the Euro-Atlantic region. Under this agreement, cooperation will be expanded in counter-terrorism, defense industry, global security, and humanitarian assistance.
In addition, joint projects in climate change, energy security, scientific research, and technology will also be promoted. Both sides also agreed to increase bilateral trade and investment and to advance negotiations on a modern free trade agreement.
According to the statement, this development shows that relations between the United Kingdom and Türkiye are based on strong economic ties, defense cooperation, and close people-to-people contacts, further strengthening trust and friendship between the two countries.
