Water Shortage in River Chenab: Pakistan Seeks Explanation from India

Islamabad (Turkiye Khabar) Pakistan has sought an explanation from India over the significant decrease in water inflow in the River Chenab. According to sources in the Ministry of Water Resources, the reduction in water at the Marala point is contrary to the provisions of the Indus Waters Treaty, and the issue of a possible violation by India has been raised in this regard.

The Pakistani Indus Water Commissioner has contacted his Indian counterpart, seeking details of the sudden decrease in water inflow at the Marala point and asking for an explanation of this unusual situation.

It is worth mentioning that, according to WAPDA data, a decrease of 11,900 cusecs in the water inflow of the River Chenab was recorded compared to the previous day, after which the water level at Head Marala dropped to 9,000 cusecs.
