Türkiye Calls Israeli Action Against Gaza Aid Flotilla “New Piracy”

Istanbul (Turkiye Khabar) Türkiye strongly condemned the Israeli action against the international aid flotilla “Global Sumud Flotilla” heading toward Gaza, describing it as “new piracy” carried out in international waters.

In a statement issued by the Turkish Foreign Ministry, it was said that Israeli forces intercepted and intervened in the flotilla carrying humanitarian aid for Gaza in international waters, which constitutes a clear violation of international law.

The statement added that citizens from nearly 40 countries were aboard the aid flotilla and that despite Israeli threats and attacks, global solidarity with the Palestinian people cannot be stopped.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry demanded that Israel immediately halt its actions and unconditionally release all detained activists.

According to the ministry, necessary measures are being taken to ensure the safe return of Turkish citizens aboard the flotilla, while Türkiye remains in close contact with other countries and is closely monitoring the situation.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military carried out an operation on Monday against the “Global Sumud” aid flotilla bound for Gaza in international waters. Live broadcasts showed Israeli naval forces surrounding the ships one by one.

According to the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, the detained activists were transferred to a naval vessel described as a “floating prison,” after which they would be taken to Ashdod Port.
