Turkey Scores Defense Success: Spain to Purchase 30 Turkish-Made HRJET Aircraft

Ankara (Turkey News): In a major boost for Turkey’s defense industry, Spain and Turkey have signed an agreement for the purchase of Turkish-made HRJET aircraft.

According to reports, the Spanish Air Force will acquire 30 HRJET planes, with the total deal valued at approximately €2.6 billion. The agreement includes not only the aircraft but also a complete training package for pilots and ground crew, flight simulators, technical support, spare parts, and long-term logistics.

The HRJET is Turkey’s first domestically produced advanced jet trainer and light combat aircraft, developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSA). It features advanced avionics, supersonic speed, and capabilities suitable for training pilots for fifth-generation fighter jets.

Defense experts note that Spain’s choice, as a NATO and EU member, reflects global confidence in Turkey’s defense technology. Deliveries of the HRJET are expected to begin gradually after 2028.

This deal represents not only a significant success for Turkey’s defense exports but also strengthens Turkey’s entry into the European defense market, paving the way for future contracts.
