Turkey Drafts Laws to Protect Children Online

Turkey (Turkey News): Turkey’s Ministry of Family and Social Services has developed a new legal framework to protect children from online risks, particularly on social media platforms and online games.

Under the proposed laws, children under the age of 15 will not be allowed to create social media accounts, even with parental consent. Access to online games will be age-appropriate, and new age restrictions will be monitored through a classification system rather than being imposed directly on games.

Ministry officials presented the draft laws to the ruling AK Party, explaining the necessity of the regulations and how they will be enforced. They also referenced international examples, including laws from the United Kingdom and Australia.

The plan includes amendments to internet publishing and cybercrime laws to ensure that social media providers can effectively protect children’s safety and privacy.
